The Deaths of Bonnie and Clyde

After months of searching for the duo they were finally ambushed in Texas by a posse consisting of Texan and Louisiana policeman. Some say that after killing two police patrolmen in Texas on 1 April 1934 and killing again in Oklahoma five days later the pair began to believe that they were untouchable. They had managed to evade the law for so long that they assumed that they would be able to continue their crime spree for as long as they wanted to. However this was not to be and it was only a matter of time before Bonnie and Clyde felt the full force of the American police departments.

This happened on 23rd May 1934 when their car was spotted on a back road situated in Louisiana. A shootout ensued with both Bonnie and Clyde and the lawmen firing endless shots of each other. Many people were injured during the shootout but Bonnie and Clyde were both fatally shot and died at the scene. At the time of their deaths Bonnie Parker was 24 years old and Clyde Barrow was 25 years old.

After their deaths Bonnie and Clyde became highly romanticised figures and their criminal activities were seen as the actions of two people who were in love and wanted to escape the American depression. Since the deaths of Bonnie and Clyde there has been films, songs, stories and more creative about the pair. Some people see them as a couple of social misfits with no boundaries and no idea about what is right and what is wrong. Others see Bonnie and Clyde as a romantic couple who loved each other and felt that it was them against the world. Whatever your feelings on Bonnie and Clyde one thing is for sure, this couple will continue to be a major part of American history for many more years to come. Bonnie & Clyde costumes
