The Barrow Gang

After Bonnie’s release from prison she and Clyde got together a gang of petty criminals and called themselves the Barrow Gang. This gang consisted of Buck Barrow – who was Clyde’s brother, Blanche the wife of Buck, Henry Methvin and W.D. Jones. Together this gang terrorised the South Western and South Central States of America indulging in robberies, murders, shootouts and kidnappings.

One of the strange quirks of Bonnie and Clyde was to kidnap robbery victims and to take them to a destination which was miles away from where they lived. Once there Bonnie and Clyde would often give the victim a sum of money in order for them to get home. It was this kind of strange act that made Bonnie and Clyde into the cult figures that they became around the time. Many people identified with Bonnie and Clyde as they put the blame of the depression on the government.

In 1933 the gang encountered a police raid in Platte City, this death of Buck Barrow and the wounding of his wife Blanche. By 1934 Henry Methvin and several other convict criminals were in prison and Clyde managed to break them out of jail, much to the embarrassment of the Department of Corrections. During this jailbreak however one of the prison officers was killed and this led to Bonnie and Clyde costumes becoming two of the most wanted people in America. A full-scale search was embarked upon in order to find and detain the two daring bank robbers who left a trail of devastation and death in their way.
